Case Study: Assist America Android App
Assist America is a provider of global emergency medical services for travelers. If a member becomes ill or injured while traveling more than 100 miles (150 kilometers) from home, Assist America supports that member with an array of services. Members can view service descriptions and extensive on-the-go travel information such as visa and inoculation requirements, cultural tips and recent media stories for any of the 194 sovereign nations recognized by the U.S. State Department, from anywhere in the world.
App Objectives
Assist America had the objectives of: (1) FREE App Download; (2) Providing up-to-the-minute travel advisories, (3) Providing detailed country information and requirements; (4) Providing a quick method of contacting the Global Assistance Center if an emergency arises; and (5) Provide member benefits and resources offered by Assist America.
App Implementation
In order to address the objectives, Weblications worked closely with Assist America to map out an application that addressed the objectives to assist member travelers, increasing the likelihood that the App would have positive results. The resulting App provides easy to use look-up functionality with respect to country information and travel advisories. Weblications simple and straight forward navigation for easy App execution. Parts of the App were implemented as a thin client using HTML 5 toolkit functionality. This also helped in porting to other mobile devices of different screen resolutions. This app is supported by All Android mobile devices that support the 2.2 API and higher.
App Results
The Android App took about 4 months to create with the advisory assistance of Assist America. It was then submitted to Google Android Marketplace and approved by them without any problems.
The App had two main goals in mind: (1) Provide Assist America Members with on-the-go travel information; and (2) Provide Assist America travelers with detailed information and requirements of the 194 nations recognized by the U.S. State Department. The traffic recorded shows good traffic to all of these section on the app.

The App can be of benefit individuals traveling anywhere in the world - members always have a lifeline back to the US. For those who are not Assist America members, there is general information about what is available.
