The
Weblications Content Management Solution is a full-featured
Web authoring and publishing system enabling business users
to author their own Web content while reducing cost, decreasing
time-to-update, and automating Web content publishing workflow.
It incorporates many of the functions necessary for more complex
Web sites and intranets using the Microsoft ASP in our Microsoft
server environment.
Features
include:
100%
browser-based
Authorized business users with an Internet connection and
Web browser can easily add or update Web content—giving
them "anytime anywhere" Web publishing. Browsers
supported: Internet Explorer 4.01 (and higher), Netscape Navigator
4.7x and 6.1 (and higher).
Intuitive
user interface
Two ways to easily navigate to content for editing or adding:
a) use your Web site as the user interface to find content
by navigating through your site, b) use the Windows Explorer-like
interface—similar to finding a document on your computer,
then clicking the document to edit.
Zero
learning curve editor
The familiar word processor-like editor is both intuitive
and easy to use for business users.
Document
check-in/check-out
The document check-in/check-out feature ensures that content
blocks can be edited only by one user at a time. The color
of the border around the content block is set by the content
status (i.e., GREEN=published, YELLOW=pending approval, RED=checked
out).
Simplified
file uploading
Upload any kind of file, graphic, or data without needing
to give anyone FTP access to the site. Web site administrators
determine allowable file formats for upload to the repository.
Content
history tracking
View or restore any previously published version of a content
block.
Robust
content management workflow
Administrators can selectively add "approval" permissions
on a per-user basis.
Comprehensive
metadata support
Adding and maintaining metadata to your site is both simple
and automatic. Administrators define the location and usage
of metadata, while users add and/or update metadata as needed—making
your Web or intranet site search engine friendly.
Summary/teaser
tag
Streamlined link management for Web pages with long lists
of summary content—ideal for job listings or press releases.
User-maintained
site navigation
The ecmCollection function is highly customizable, allowing
developers to easily define how the collection data will be
displayed on the Web page. Site administrators can designate
"super users" to manage site navigation (or a similar
display of information) within a new folder titled "collections".
They can add and remove items from a navigation menu (or for
a press release listing) and easily re-order them. This powerful
feature makes site navigation as easy to manage as the content
itself and reduces the need for IT or Webmasters to be involved
with all navigational site changes.
Separation
of content from presentation using style sheets
Sites managed by the Weblications content management solutions
can easily take advantage of cascading style sheets (CSS).
In addition, style classes can be applied to content within
the editor (Ektron eWebEditPro). Style sheets store presentation
information about the content in a separate file. To learn
more, read about advantages of using style sheets to separate
content from style.
Maximized
content control
Organize content with unlimited folders and subfolders. This
lets administrators manage large volumes of Web pages while
easily enforcing corporate Web site standards (e.g., fonts,
styles, layout, permissible file format).
Administrator
control
All aspects of the system can be controlled by the Web site
administrator, including the Web site look and feel and user
privileges.
Syndication
of content
With just one line of JavaScript developers can display dynamically-managed
content blocks (within the content database) on any static
or dynamic Web page. With this feature, you can easily create
and maintain shared content across multiple sites.
Advanced
search functionality
Site visitors can quickly find specific content using several
search options.
Extensive
branding support
Web developers can now easily "brand" this product
to match the graphics or style of either their own company
or their clients' companies. This branding lets developers
alter the graphics, colors, and styles of the application.
Extensive documentation is included to aid developers with
the available customization options.
Application
languages available
Three application languages available include English, French,
and German. The Web site administrator sets the default language
for the application. Different languages can be assigned on
a per user basis. Example: the administrator sets the application
default to French, but assigns three users with English, two
users with German, and five users with French.
Full
language support for application menus and dialogs
Application menus and dialogs can be displayed to users in
their desired language(s). If the preferred choice of language
is not yet available, then the Language SDK can be used by
developers to add additional languages to the application.
Library
item overwrite permission
The administrator can now give "super users" library
overwrite permissions. This will allow designated contributors
the ability to update images or files on the server.
Scheduling
of content
Content can be scheduled in two ways: a) with only a "Start"
date/time, or b) with a "Start" and a "End"
date/time.
View
staged site prior to approval
Logged in users view the site as if all content changes had
been approved and are currently live on the site.
Virtual
staging server
Users with approval permissions can review content changes
before content is published live to the site. Additional hardware
is not needed for a separate staging server!
Microsoft
SQL and Microsoft Access integration
Includes utilities to fully exploit the power of Microsoft
SQL server (Version 7.0 and 2000).
Advanced
navigation made easy with Macromedia Flash MX
Macromedia's newest version of Flash—called Macromedia
Flash MX—has many new features. The most exciting feature
is advanced navigation. With Flash MX, the business logic
that builds the navigation can be dynamic. Navigation and
content management are the two building blocks needed to build
a Web site—the Ektron CM solution to manage the content
and Flash MX to create the advanced navigation.
Component-based
content management solution
Designed to be a "building block", the Weblications
CM solution can be easily integrated into your site—even
if your site uses complicated business logic, or other third
party components like e-commerce and personalization. Because
this solution use a component-based approach, we don't get
in the way of your integration. This gives you the ability
to add your own dynamic ASP code, or any special business
logic programming.
